Role Overview

The Marketing Automation Consultant is a client-facing specialist who partners with Destination Marketing Organizations (DMOs) to maximize their marketing technology investments. This role combines technical expertise with strategic guidance to help clients achieve measurable marketing impact through our preferred marketing automation platforms.

Working directly with DMOs across meetings, sports, visitors, group tours, and member/partner audiences, you'll serve as the bridge between complex marketing technology and practical business outcomes. This position offers the opportunity to drive meaningful results for organizations that promote destinations and communities worldwide.

The role blends hands-on technical execution with strategic consulting, requiring expertise in marketing automation, email marketing, data management, and CRM integrations. You'll guide clients from initial onboarding through ongoing optimization, ensuring they can operationalize platforms effectively and achieve consistent, data-driven results.

Responsibilities

  • Develop understanding of each client's marketing goals and partner to define clear marketing automation objectives and KPIs
  • Present performance insights, strategic recommendations, and campaign results to guide ongoing client success
  • Manage full onboarding process for new clients by configuring marketing automation platforms and establishing key settings
  • Deliver comprehensive training on core and advanced platform features including segmentation, email creation, scoring, forms, landing pages, A/B testing, and automated programs
  • Maintain high data quality standards through accurate list imports, segmentation updates, and data hygiene practices
  • Build email templates aligned to client requirements and troubleshoot HTML, deliverability, and segmentation issues
  • Execute email marketing campaigns and automated workflows using digital marketing best practices
  • Utilize CRM-to-marketing automation integrations and help DMO clients leverage CRM data within marketing programs
  • Diagnose and resolve technical issues while meeting departmental SLAs for reliable client support

Requirements

  • 1+ years of hands-on experience in marketing automation and/or email marketing
  • Proficiency with marketing automation platforms (Act-On preferred) and familiarity with CRM systems
  • Strong understanding of database concepts, list management, segmentation, and foundational HTML/CSS
  • Experience delivering client training and translating complex technical concepts into practical guidance
  • Demonstrated analytical, problem solving, and project management skills with high attention to detail
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with experience in client-facing roles
  • Proficiency with Microsoft 365 product family
  • Ability to work independently on multiple tasks with minimal direction while collaborating effectively within a team

Nice to Have

  • Experience in software/tech or agency environment working with Destination Marketing Organizations (DMOs) or at a DMO
  • Familiarity with analytics and testing tools (e.g., Google Analytics, Litmus)
  • Agency or consulting experience
  • Strong travel and tourism industry knowledge
