Electric Power Engineers, Inc. (EPE) is
an engineering consulting firm working in renewable generation, grid integration, compliance, and technical studies. We are seeking an AI Automation Developer Intern to build internal AI-powered tools that improve the efficiency and consistency of our engineering and compliance teams.
You will work with technical staff (study engineers, commissioning specialists, compliance analysts) to translate their workflows into AI-assisted solutions — for example, chatbots that answer questions on NERC standards, ISO commissioning steps, study procedures (e.g., MOD-026/027, PRC-019), or internal SOPs and templates.
How you can make an impact:
Develop internal AI assistants/tools to support engineering and compliance workflows (e.g., policy Q&A bots, study-procedure assistants, template generators, queryable knowledge bases)
Ingest and structure internal knowledge (standards, SOPs, commissioning guides, templates, past deliverables)
Apply prompt engineering / retrieval-augmented generation to ensure accuracy and compliance
Integrate prototypes with internal systems and shared knowledge libraries where applicable
Validate tools with internal users (engineers, PMs, compliance analysts) and iterate based on feedback
Produce technical documentation for maintenance, auditability, and hand-off to internal teams
Qualifications
Bring your passion, here's what’s needed:
Completion of, or current enrollment in, a bachelor’s degree program with a major in Computer Science, Electrical and Computer Engineering, or Data/AI from an accredited college or university.
Proficient programming in Python or JavaScript for backend automation / APIs
Familiarity with modern LLM stacks (OpenAI/Anthropic APIs, LangChain, RAG, embeddings, vector DBs)
Strong written communication for clear documentation and knowledge capture
Minimum GPA of 3.0 or higher

Fall internships will be conducted remotely. Position is part time, in which hours are a minimum of 10 hours a week and a maximum of 40 a week.
