Role Overview

Join Vantaca as a Senior AI Automation Engineer and help build world-class internal automation infrastructure that eliminates manual processes across our Product, AI Enablement, and Engineering teams. This is not a prompt engineering role or AI exploration sandbox - you'll build production-grade automation systems that are spec-anchored, evaluated, and deployed to reduce manual burden at scale.

You'll partner daily with cross-functional teams as a trusted builder, owning your problem space end-to-end in a high-trust, high-autonomy environment. This role focuses on creating AI-powered automations, RAG pipelines, and context engineering patterns that allow agents to operate reliably on internal knowledge while building evaluation infrastructure alongside every automation.

As part of our growth, we're building our second engineering hub in Raleigh-Durham, offering a hybrid work environment for candidates in the Raleigh-Durham or Wilmington areas.

Responsibilities

Design and ship internal AI-powered automations that eliminate repeatable manual workflows across Product, AI Enablement, and Engineering
Build RAG pipelines, retrieval systems, and context engineering patterns for reliable agent operations on internal knowledge
Architect prompt and context engineering workflows that are versioned, traceable, and reusable
Integrate internal and external APIs (REST, webhooks, OAuth) to connect automation workflows with team tools and data
Build evaluation infrastructure alongside every automation, defining success criteria before development
Own the full DevOps lifecycle for internal tooling including CI/CD pipelines, IaC, containerization, and deployment reliability
Maintain security-aware practices treating data governance and access scoping as design constraints
Contribute to Vantaca's automation infrastructure as a compounding asset that improves with each build

Requirements

Daily use of AI tools (Claude, Cursor, Claude Code, or equivalent) as core part of workflow
AI/ML background required; CS or AI/ML academic track preferred
Python proficiency as primary language for automation and scripting
API integration experience with REST, webhooks, and OAuth implementations
RAG and retrieval system experience including chunking, embedding strategies, and hallucination mitigation
Prompt and context engineering expertise with understanding of context boundaries and persistence strategies
DevOps fundamentals including CI/CD, Infrastructure as Code, and containerization
Spec-first approach with detailed intent documentation before building
Bias toward measurement with evaluation-focused development and predefined success metrics
Builder mindset for internal tooling rather than SaaS integration
Security-aware practices with proactive consideration of access scoping and data classification
Comfort with ambiguity and ability to orient toward outcomes despite shifting requirements
Strong written communication skills for documentation and clear record-keeping
