Role Overview

Johnson & Johnson Innovative Medicine is seeking a Senior Data Automation Engineer to join our Global Engineering & Technology team at our Leiden, Netherlands facility. In this role, you'll design, implement, and sustain manufacturing data automation solutions that directly contribute to our digital strategy for producing life-saving medicines using living cells and advanced technology.

You'll be responsible for setting technical direction for data integration standards, managing the site historian and contextualization layer (OSI PI / PI AF), and delivering high-quality datasets that support both operations and analytics. This position offers the opportunity to work at the intersection of cutting-edge biotechnology and data automation, helping to advance treatments for cancer and immunological disorders.

As part of our Automation department, you'll collaborate across multiple teams to implement, validate, and maintain manufacturing automated systems while ensuring compliance with regulatory and company standards in a GxP environment.

Responsibilities

Partner with Automation, Operations, IT, and digital groups to align on data automation designs
Build and manage automated data pipelines from manufacturing systems to the site data platform
Define data contextualization and standardization aligned with ISA-95 and site/global standards
Evolve the OT contextualization model and adoption patterns
Ensure data quality and reliability; lead troubleshooting and corrective actions
Support GxP-compliant delivery, documentation, risk assessments, and audits
Manage the site historian and contextualization layer (OSI PI / PI AF)
Improve the Leiden Information Model
Define data management standards and roadmaps

Requirements

Technical Master's degree or equivalent experience
Experience in biotechnological/pharma GxP environments
Knowledge of GAMP required
Experience delivering technical solutions in manufacturing
Understanding of the data lifecycle and translating use cases into scalable datasets
Experience with OSI PI / AVEVA PI, PI AF, and historian data governance
Programming skills
Strong communication and collaboration abilities
Ability to work independently across the solution lifecycle

Nice to Have

Strategic thinking and change management experience
Familiarity with data management and process excellence tools (Lean, Six Sigma)
Manufacturing process analytics experience
Experience working in global, remote teams
Digital projects experience
