Role Overview

M-Files is seeking an AI Operations Engineer to build and operationalize AI-powered internal tools that transform how teams work. This role sits at the intersection of engineering and business operations, where you'll partner with business leaders to identify high-value workflows that can be accelerated with AI, redesign underlying processes, and build secure, reliable AI-enabled solutions from concept to production.

This is an execution-oriented engineering role embedded in the business, not a traditional product software engineering position. You'll move quickly from problem definition to production while applying appropriate risk controls, security, and compliance standards. The role leverages AI-assisted development tools as part of daily workflow to accelerate delivery while maintaining quality and reliability.

You'll own the entire lifecycle of internal AI agents and automation tools, from discovery and design through deployment and ongoing operations, creating measurable business impact through reduced friction, improved accuracy, and enhanced compliance.

Responsibilities

Partner with functional leaders to identify and shape high-value AI automation opportunities
Map current state processes, identify bottlenecks, and redesign workflows to be automation-ready
Design and implement internal AI agents using modern LLM patterns including tool use, RAG, and human-in-the-loop checkpoints
Build end-to-end solutions including UX, APIs, integrations, data access, and automation triggers
Own production reliability including monitoring, alerting, logging, and incident response
Establish repeatable patterns and templates for scaling AI workflows across the organization
Implement security guardrails including data minimization, access controls, and output validation
Coordinate with IT/Security, Legal/Privacy, and functional SMEs for solution approval and adoption
Create and maintain documentation, runbooks, and training materials for internal teams
Define success metrics and translate business goals into technical build plans

Requirements

Demonstrated ability to build and maintain end-to-end software with strong engineering fundamentals
Proficiency in at least one modern programming language (Python, TypeScript, C#, Node.js)
Practical experience integrating systems via APIs, authentication, and structured data formats
Strong ability to work with non-technical stakeholders and translate ambiguous problems into clear specifications
Hands-on experience building LLM-powered tools/agents including prompting, tool use, and evaluation approaches
Experience building cloud-based services with CI/CD, source control, and test automation
Ability to design safe and predictable AI systems with validation, fallbacks, and failure handling
Comfort with secure platform concepts including networking, identity, and secrets management

Nice to Have

Familiarity with enterprise security/compliance expectations and audit trails
Experience modernizing processes with Lean/ops mindset
Experience building internal tools that drive adoption across multiple functions
Experience or strong interest in AI-assisted development as part of daily engineering practice
